Buying a flat to the ground trampoline? Everything you need to know!

A flat to the ground trampoline – also known as a flat to the ground trampoline or ground-level trampoline – is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to combine safety, aesthetics, and jumping comfort. These trampolines are completely dug in, making the jumping surface level with your lawn. At Etan Trampolines, you’ll find several models that perfectly suit your needs, such as the Etan UltraFlat trampoline for the serious jumper or the Etan PremiumFlat trampoline, ideal for years of fun and play.

What is a flat to the ground trampoline?

A flat to the ground trampoline is a type of trampoline that is placed entirely in the ground. This means the trampoline frame is completely below the surface level. The result is a sleek, safe, and stylish finish that fully integrates the trampoline into your garden.

Note: a flat to the ground trampoline is not the same as an inground trampoline. With an in-ground trampoline, only the frame sits at the edge of a bowl-shaped pit, meaning part of the frame remains visible above ground. With a flat to the ground trampoline, the entire frame is buried, resulting in a much cleaner finish – with a trampoline safety pad that lies completely level with the surface.

What to consider when buying a flat to the ground trampoline?

A trampoline isn’t just a toy you quickly add to your basket online. Especially with a flat to the ground trampoline, there are a few key factors to consider:

Size and space

Measure your garden carefully before choosing a trampoline. With a flat to the ground trampoline, you’ll need extra space – not just for the trampoline itself, but also for digging the pit. Consider a rectangular flat to the ground trampoline if you have a compact garden.

Groundwork and installation

Installing a flat to the ground trampoline is quite a task. You’ll need to:

  • Dig a pit the size of the entire trampoline (including the frame).

  • Dig an extra bowl-shaped pit under the trampoline jumping mat to ensure sufficient airflow and bounce.

  • Install a wall system to prevent the sides from collapsing.

Keep in mind that you’ll need to remove a large amount of soil. But the result is worth it: a trampoline that lies neatly and professionally in your garden. With a trampoline cover, you can keep the trampoline safety pad and jumping mat in great condition for years – highly recommended!

Popular sizes

At Etan, we offer square trampolines, rectangular trampolines, and round trampolines. The square and rectangular models are often more popular than the round trampoline, but we also offer beautiful round sizes:

Frequently Asked Questions

Which trampoline bounces the best?

The best jumping experience happens when a few things come together: a sturdy frame, long high-quality springs, a breathable jumping mat, and good energy transfer.

Higher-end trampolines, like semi-pro or flat to the ground models, give the smoothest and most controlled jumps thanks to their design and materials. They’re built for heavy use and are clearly a step above beginner models.

What should you pay attention to when buying a trampoline?

Before buying a trampoline, it’s important to consider who will use it, how intensively it will be used, and how long you want it to last. Experience shows that relatively cheap trampolines typically last only 2–3 years due to the materials and build quality, and their safety decreases quickly because of wear, rust, and breakage.

Key things to look for:

  • Frame: steel thickness, galvanisation, and construction.
  • Springs: length, type (e.g., conical), and rust resistance.
  • Jumping mat: airflow, coating thickness, spring-overlays, and stitching quality.
  • Safety pad: foam thickness and width, PVC thickness, and how well it closes around the frame.
  • Safety: safety net, solid connections, certifications.
  • Warranty: good warranties on the frame, springs, and mat indicate higher quality.

Why choose an Etan Premium trampoline?

An Etan Premium trampoline gives fun, quality, durability, and looks great too! Not just for a few years – these trampolines are made to provide years of enjoyment. They are produced in Europe, feature strong safety pads, durable jumping mats, and unique safety solutions.

Who is the Etan UltraFlat suitable for?

The UltraFlat is perfect for enthusiastic jumpers, athletes, trainers, families who want top quality, and places where the trampoline is used often, like sports clubs or recreational facilities.

How does the UltraFlat trampoline differ from regular trampolines?

Etan UltraFlat trampolines stand out with:

  • 3 mm thick, box-shaped galvanized steel frame
  • High-quality safety pad with 3 cm foam
  • OptiFlow jumping mat for optimal air movement
  • Strong hard-plastic Diamond System triangles
  • Durable, high-quality trampoline springs
  • Matching warranties

This combination ensures stability, better bounce, safety, and a longer lifespan.

What makes the Etan UltraFlat suitable for semi-professional use?

The UltraFlat trampolines are built from high-quality European materials designed to withstand intensive and frequent use. This includes a 3 mm thick galvanized steel frame, strong safety pad, extra breathable OptiFlow jumping mat, and Diamond System triangles.

How much does it cost to dig in a trampoline?

Costs vary depending on the size of the trampoline and ground conditions. For a professional dig-in service, prices usually range from €700 to €1,800, including digging, placing the trampoline, and finishing the edges.

Is it a lot of work to dig in a trampoline?

Yes. Digging in a trampoline takes quite some work. An inground trampoline (20 cm above ground) is easier to install than a Flat-to-the-Ground trampoline. Most of the effort goes into digging the hole and backfilling the soil. Assembling the trampoline itself usually takes 1–2 hours, depending on the type, size, and whether a safety net is included.

What do I need to dig in a trampoline?

To install a trampoline in the ground, you’ll need:

  • An inground or flatground trampoline (not one on legs!)
  • Installation instructions
  • A spade or mini-excavator
  • A wheelbarrow
  • An earth container, trailer, or nearby space to dump the soil
  • A measuring tape and string to mark the pit
  • A level for flat installation
  • Optional drainage if the soil is wet
  • Ground cover or weed fabric to prevent weeds under the trampoline

Check beforehand for underground utilities, pipes, cables, or drains.

Who can dig in my trampoline?

Some trampoline suppliers offer a trampoline dig-in service. Since they are often the supplier or even the manufacturer, they usually know the installation best – so they’re often your best bet. There are also plenty of gardeners who can handle the (digging) work for you.

Note: Installing a trampoline isn’t just digging a hole. Make sure you check how someone plans to install your trampoline. When in doubt, contact your trampoline supplier.
